Agni Natchathiram goes to Bollywood
Not often do two films of the same director get remade simultaneously in Bollywood. We had already reported that Mani Ratnam’s O Kadhal Kanmani is currently being remade in Hindi as Ok Jaanu with Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles, and is being directed by Mani’s former associate Shaad Ali.
The latest is that filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar has obtained the official rights from Mani Ratnam for the Hindi adaptation of the former’s classic Agni Natchathiram that had Prabhu, Karthik and Nirosha in pivotal roles. Earlier, there were reports that Ajay Devgan is likely to remake the film in Hindi. We hear that Bejoy met Mani some time ago, and is also working on a modern version of the script. Meanwhile, a little birdie tells us that though the script’s core would be based on Agni Natchathiram, the remake would be in Bejoy’s own style. However, it’s not clear as to who are acting in the film. One may recall that in 2012, rumours surfaced that Vikram Prabhu and Gautam Karthik (sons of veteran actors who had acted in the original) would play the leads in the bilingual Tamil-Telugu remake of the film, which didn’t materialise. The story of Agni Natchathiram revolves around the fight of two half-brothers who claim the right of descent from one father.
