They are undoubtedly, the most sought-after set of people in the film industry by the stars. Be it an audio release function, a press conference or even travel — actors, who prefer to dress to the tee often, depend on their stylists! But unlike earlier, stylists have now become an integral part of an actor’s life, progressing beyond developing just a professional relationship with the stars.
Actors and celebs count on them as not just friends on set, but away from the cameras too, where they party, shop, travel, dine and share sob stories together! In short, most stylists are BFFs to the industry elite.
Neeraja Kona, one of the prominent stylists in the city, is on the speed dial of many Tamil and Telugu actors. She has styled a gamut of celebrities including Samantha, Rakul Preet Singh, Trisha, Hansika Motwani. When quizzed about her favourite actresses from the industry, Neeraja says, “Samantha is my best friend and my favourite celeb. We hit it off from day one and it’s always been great between us.”
“Whether it is on or off-screen, these actors are striving to put their best foot forward and they work with stylists to achieve this. They become friends with us, and the rapport shared together translates to the screen as well. With time, friendships definitely grow stronger as well,” Neeraja shares.
Another stylist, Pallavi Singh says, “From our perspective, the actor we work with adds life to the ideas we conceive and create — be it the outfit, the attitude or character that he or she exhibits. We become good buddies eventually, because my job mainly lies in reflecting who they are, comfortably. It’s the actor who makes the most challenging part of the job feel worthy! It’s a relationship that one shares with a muse — one can’t tell who the muse is here!”
Pallavi considers Amala Paul as a very dear friend. “Her husband, Vijay sir has always been very supportive and encouraging, he is like family,” she adds.
This Kerala-based stylist is slowly catching the attention from industry circuits. Sonya Sandiavo, who styled Amala Paul for her upcoming film Amma Kanakku, says that she and the actor are soul sisters.
“It was Amala’s brother Abijith Paul who introduced me to her. Even before becoming the stylist, I admired the actor for her acting skills and style sense. I have a certain vibe with her. I started off as her stylist and as time passed, we have become thick friends!” Sonya exclaims. They have travelled together to many places and Sonya says they are partners in everything!
Actress Vedhika, who is known for maintaining fantastic relationships with her team, says, “I like to work closely with my stylist when I’m making a public appearance. It definitely becomes easier as they update you with the latest collection and help you look your best!”
