Aadhi recalls U turns in his life

He plays the not so usual filmy cop in Pawan Kumar's latest.

Actor Aadhi Pinisetti who's returning to Tamil cinema after a long gap talks about his experience working with director Pawan Kumar on the Tamil and Telugu remakes of U Turn, saying, “It is Pawan's film out and out. I watched his previous movies — Lucia and the Kannada version of U Turn, and I was fascinated by the way he had made them. Even with a very limited budget, he managed to prove his credentials. He is an intelligent filmmaker, and I wanted to be part of a good film.”

The actor reveals that it is not the usual filmy cop he plays in U Turn. “I last portrayed a cop in Eeram, many years ago. But Pradeep Naik in U Turn is completely different from the regular, filmy police who come with a certain body language and accent. He's very natural, like a cop you'd actually come across in real life,” he says.

Aadhi adds that he didn't prepare very much for the role. “I told Pawan not to give me dialogue sheets, and to just explain the scene to me on the spot. I would just speak the way I wanted, and to everyone's surprise, my performance turned out so well that everyone loved it. But it made it tough for me to dub my dialogues,” he says.

Talking about his experience in working with Samantha, with whom he last shared screen space in Rangasthalam, he says, “She is down to earth and fun. We have a lot of common friends. In Rangasthalam, we didn't have too many scenes together, but in U Turn, we worked together for many days. Actually, the entire team — Pawan, Bhumika madam, and Rahul —are all very interesting to work with.”

Talking about the real-life U turns that he's experienced, he says, “I never wanted to become an actor. I studied engineering. But then, all of a sudden, I had to make a U turn and don grease paint. Even after making my debut in Mirugam, I intended to train to become a pilot, and I secured an admission. But after seeing the kind of appreciation and applause that my performance received, I took another U turn. Today, I am enjoying the whole process.”
