Audio launch in the sky

Innovative start to a movie celebrating the life of a pioneer.

Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru was flying high even before its release! For the first time in the history of Tamil cinema, a film’s audio launch took place amidst great fanfare in mid-air inside a flight.

Actor/producer Suriya, who likes to do things differently, attempted a quirky music launch for his film Soorarai Pottru, a movie based on Deccan Airlines owner G.R Gopinath’s life, and directed by Sudha Kongara.

The single track Veyyon Silli composed by GV Prakash Kumar was unveiled aboard a Spice Jet aircraft. Seventy children, all first-time flyers, from various government schools were also part of the journey. Model aircraft were presented to all the children at the event.

It isn’t every day that you hear GV Prakash sing on a flight. The actor/composer crooned few lines of Veyyon Silli, a fusion number, which had folk-style lyrics penned by Vivek.

Speaking at the event, Suriya said, “Soorarai Pottru is a significant film in my 20 years of cinema career. Director Sudha Kongara has been working on this script for the last 10 years. She has put in a lot effort to make this film happen. It was no easy task. We have shot 30 minutes of SP inside the flight. I thank Spice Jet and all those who gave full cooperation and support on the floors.”

“Inventions are very important, but what is more essential is that those innovations should be affordable and useful to people”, Suriya went on to say. “Captain GR Gopinath, the owner of Deccan Airlines did precisely that. In India, in the past, less than 1% of the people could afford to fly. However, Gopinath brought about a total change in the airline industry. He made common people also able to fly at just one rupee. This movie is a tribute to him and I am proud to be part of this film. And it is also a tribute to all heroes who serve our nation.”

“I expressed my wish to take children who are first time flyers and give them the best experience, to create a positive impact on the young minds. Thanks to Spice Jet chairman Ajay Singh. He made it possible, and today 70 kids have got the opportunity to fly. It was an enjoyable occasion for both the kids and me”, Suriya added.

Tollywood actor Mohan Babu, who plays a vital role in SP, Rajashekar, Sivakumar and his wife Lakshmi and co-producer Guneet Monga was among others who graced the occasion.

Aparna Balamurali is playing the female lead, while Karunas, Kaali Venkat will be essaying key characters.

Soorarai Pottru will also be released in Telugu as Aakasam Nee Haddu Ra.
