I trust Mysskin sir: Anu Emmanuel
Anu Emmanuel has officially replaced Rakul Preet Singh in Vishal-Mysskin’s ambitious project Thupparivaalan. The film marks the debut of Anu in Tamil, who is already a known face in the Telugu and Malayalam industries. The US-born girl, in a freewheeling chat, opens about how she landed the project and her aspirations.
“Thupparivaalan happened very fast. I got a call from Mysskin sir and he asked me to come down to Chennai. When I met him, he wanted me to wear a saree to shoot a few stills. Next thing I know, he calls me and goes, ‘I want you to be my heroine!’ It all happened superfast!” she exclaims.
However, Anu turns tight-lipped when probed about her role. “I am not supposed to reveal anything. That was one of the prime instructions from the makers. It is confidential,” she grins.
She hasn’t had a script narration but is confident about her director. She asserts, “Mysskin sir wants me to trust him and that’s what I am doing now. He is a well-educated man. I consider myself lucky to be part of his film,” she says.
Though born and brought up in the US, Anu sticks to her roots and is well aware of Tamil cinema — “I come pretty often to Kerala. Also, I have seen many Tamil films. I like the works of Mani Ratnam sir and Gautam Menon sir.”
Anu also harbours aspirations to direct films, but for now, it is just acting that she will be focusing on. “I like talking about films and watching a lot of films. But, direction and screenwriting is a huge burden and I don’t think I can handle it right now,” she signs off.
