Japanese film fest comes to Chennai

Chennai with its annual film festivals, clubs and theatre-going culture is a very attractive city for foreign film industries.

“It was the huge success of Rajinkanth's Muthu, which was released as Muthu -Oduru Maharaja (Dancing Maharaja) and the recent 2.O in Japan, which inspired us to bring the first edition of 'Japanese Film Festival India ' to Chennai," remarked Kaoru Miyamoto, Director General, Japan Foundation.

"South India, especially Kollywood is a land of cinema lovers, which has made us expand our geographic reach and tap into a larger audience base. Especially, Chennai with its annual film festivals, clubs and theatre-going culture is a very attractive city for foreign film industries. And 25 specially curated contemporary Japanese films will be screened for Chennai audiences at the festival, jointly organized with PVR Cinemas. This helps you understand the culture, the society and the people of Japan."

The line-up for this year is a perfect balance of mainstream entertainment, art-house and indie films, along with award-winners and anime/manga adaptations. The hand-picked movies capture a variety of issues across many genres and styles that Indian audiences may find relevant, he claims.
