Thupparivaalan is a quirky film: Mysskin

Says Mysskin about his upcoming thriller, which will feature Vishal as a Sherlock Holmes-type detective!

Director Mysskin, who has made several critically acclaimed films, has now teamed up with Vishal for Thupparivaalan, an action entertainer. Anu Emmanuel, who is busy with Telugu flicks, is making her debut in Tamil as Vishal’s pair in the film. Mysskin, who is in the final lap of wrapping up the shoot, opens up about his new film. “Not many films in the detective genre have been made in Tamil cinema. Thupparivaalan is one such script, which I had in mind for a long time. And when I locked the script, I felt Vishal would be apt for the protagonist’s role — a Sherlock Holmes-type detective. Moreover, Vishal’s physique and height suit the story,” he says.

Prasanna essays a role that has shades of Dr. Watson. The director, known for his gritty approach, says, “There’s a thin line between getting inspired and plagiarising something. Everyone gets inspired from something or the other. I would say Harichandra inspired Mahatma Gandhi. Likewise, Edgar Allen Poe came up with the first detective story and then came Sherlock Holmes. My story has nothing related to Sherlock Holmes or other detective movies, though.”

On Thupparivaalan, he asserts, “It’s a unique subject and has anecdotes from Subramaniya Bharathi, and Mahatma Gandhi. There is love, friendship and ego.” Heaping praises on Vishal, he adds, “I have never been as close to any of my films’ heroes, like I am with Vishal. We discuss lot of things. We both give our inputs and I am always open to improvisation with him.”

Mysskin’s characters, big or small, always stand out. Bhagyaraj plays a crucial role, while Andrea, Vinay, Shaji, Abhishek, and Thalaivasal Vijay have also all done their part very well, he claims. He also reveals a quirky plan for the film — instead of a routine audio launch, the crew might go for a live action sequence as its first promo. The is film scheduled to release on August 11.
