In spite of its limited release, positive word of mouth and encouragement from prominent technicians in the Tamil industry have made director/actor Vijay Kumar’s Uriyadi, one of the most critically-acclaimed films in recent times. In the aftermath of the film’s success, Vijay has been flooded with offers and has already started working on his next project.
He speaks to DC about the response for Uriyadi, and gives us an idea of what we can expect from his second film. “I’m overwhelmed with the love and affection I have been getting from fans across the state. Uriyadi had overcome a lot of hurdles, but I don’t regret making it, only because of the feedback I have been receiving so far,” starts Vijay. Stating that he has almost finished writing the story of his next project, he says, “I initially had an idea of taking a short break. But I always feel that a story should be born from within and you don’t know when that happens — the idea for my second film evolved that way. I didn’t want to waste time, so I started writing.”
Vijay says that the second movie will be completely different from the first — “When a director gets critical acclaim for a particular movie, sometimes, he gets trapped in that particular genre. I don’t want to be monotonous. My new project will be a ‘mass’ film, with a social angle to it. I’m satisfied with how the story has shaped up.” So, when we ask if he would be starring as the main lead again, he says, “I am a good fit for the story. That said, I also have two prominent heroes in mind. I’ve not officially signed with any production company yet. The casting will also depend on that. Let’s hope for the best,” he says and signs off.
