Marina Puratchi to expose Jallikattu ban politics

The film covers the origin of the protest, the mechanisms the youths used to gather protestors, and the silent protest they organised.

The Jallikattu protest of 2017 is being turned into a film called Marina Puratchi by director MS Raj. The filmmaker says, “The film is about how a bunch of Tamil youths who outsmart the state and get lakhs of people to join pro-Jallikattu protests. They’re simple people who do not belong to any organised group or outfit, and they’re just working for a cause.”

The film covers the origin of the protest, the mechanisms the youths used to gather protestors, and the silent protest they organised. It features Rajmohan, Naveen, and Shruti of the Put Chutney YouTube channel, who were part of the actual protest, in the lead roles.

“We are also exposing the people behind the Jallikattu ban, the politics associated with the movement, what happened on the day of the protest, and how PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment for Animals) paid politicians and film stars, a female actress in particular, to support the ban,” the director adds.
