“Expect the unexpected from me”, quips ace cinematographer, filmmaker and actor Thangar Bachan about his upcoming flick Takku Mukku Tikku Thaalam, where he launches his son Vijith Bachan as the hero. Thangar is known for intense family dramas set in a rural milieu and keeping poetic titles for his films, including Thendral, Azhagi, Kalavaadiya Pozhudhugal etc. When he changed tack for his son’s sake, he says he has made an out-and-out city-centric commercial potboiler. “I did it purely for my son,” says Thangar to DC.
“I watch most of the today’s films. I noticed audiences’ tastes have changed. Unlike earlier days, when scripts were closer to reality, now everything is fictional. So, I also wanted to change my style of filmmaking, which I started right from the title Takku Mukku Tikku Thaalam. Drug peddling, murders, brothels, gangsters, high-octane stunts, police and item numbers - you name it, everything is there in the film. But, of course it is narrated in my way. I am saying this at the outset because I don’t want my people come to theatre expecting a Thangar film and get disappointed.”
The story takes place between two characters - a boy (Vijith) who hails from a poor family and living without any aim and a wealthy man (Munishkanth) who does not want to live.
Vijith Bachchan says, “After completing Viscom, I joined the theatre and wanted to learn acting. Appa guided me and listened to many scripts. Finally, it so happened that Appa himself launched me. He suggested that I do something light instead of a heavy subject, which is his forte. He felt that I had lot of comedy sense in real life and hence chose this script.” On Munishkanth, he says, “I learnt the nuances of acting, especially the comedy scenes, from Munishkanth. He was very helpful on the sets.”
Milano Nagaraj and Ashwini play the lead heroines. Stunt Slyva, Mansoor Ali Khan and Yogiram are the baddies for Vijith. Bankrolled by PNS Entertainment, Dharan Kumar composes the music.
