There have been instances in the past, where top actors turned down some films for various reasons. But later when these films were made with alternate artistes, they went on to create a record at the box office! A classic example is the latest blockbuster and the much acclaimed film Aruvi. New girl Aditi Balan, who essayed the titular character in the film, (the year’s best film to have emerged out of K’town and directed by debutant Arun Prabhu Purushothaman) is the talk of the town for her power-packed performance.
But only a few know that the lead role went to three prominent stars before Aditi was approached. Actors Nayanthara, Samantha and Shruti Haasan were offered the role by Arun. But all three turned it down for various reasons including one being other project commitments. Also, there is a portion in the film where the heroine has to reduce weight drastically and look very sick —these three heroines refused to do so. But reportedly, all the three were in touch with Arun about the film’s developments. After all, it’s a gritty story that impressed the trio uniformly!
