Vignesh upbeat about turning hero

Incidentally, Esther, who plays the female lead is also a child artiste-turned-heroine.

Vignesh, who played the ‘periya Kaaka Muttai’ in the film Kaaka Muttai and also won a National Award for his performance as a child artiste speaks to DC about his debut as a hero in a film Kuzhali. Incidentally, Esther, who plays the female lead is also a child artiste-turned-heroine.

“I am excited as well as nervous,” begins Vignesh, with a smile, on turning solo hero. He adds, “It is an adolescent love story and when the director Chera Kalaiyarasan narrated the story, I was not sure if I could handle it. He said he was confident about me and encouraged me to get on board. Moreover, I play my age, a 16-year-old boy Subramani who has just completed the 10th grade.”

He thanked the director for having faith in him and now that the shooting is underway, he says Kuzhali will fetch him a good name like Kaaka Muttai. On Esther, with whom he is yet to shoot for the romantic portions, he says, “Oh, she is much more experienced than I am. She has completed 50 films in Malayalam as a child artiste.” (laughs)

The young actor quips, “I imitate all mass heroes and repeat their dialogues in their style after watching films on television. That way, I pick up something I like from each one.”

He is also part of Nayanthara’s Aramm where he essays a rural boy Saravanan — “Even though it is not big, my role will stand out. It was a good experience working in Aramm.”

He is upbeat about yet another flick Vendaikkai Katthirikkai where he teams up with his co-star Ramesh from Kaaka Muttai again and both play the titular characters!

“Charlie sir also plays a role. The story revolves around us and it’s about our journey from a village to a big city,” Vignesh explains. Though he innocently says that he doesn’t know other actors who are also part of the cast, Vignesh says, “The entire unit is from Kerala. The movie directed by Sudeesh Shankar sir is complete.”
