More Charlie Chaplin sequels in store: Sakthi Chidambaram
Prabhu Deva’s last outing was Lakshmi, on his pet theme of dance. Now the choreographer, actor and filmmaker is gearing up with his next Charlie Chaplin 2, a comedy entertainer and a sequel to his 2002 blockbuster with the same name.
CC, directed by Sakthi Chidambaram, created a record in Tamil cinema as it became the first to be remade in six Indian languages, including in Bollywood. Nikki Galrani and Adah Sharma play the female leads. Veteran Prabhu will be seen in a crucial role. Bankrolled by producer Siva who has also doubled up essaying a role in the film, composer Amrish’s songs are already popular, especially ‘Chinna Machchan’ that has crossed 70 million views.
Speaking on the occasion, Sakthi Chidambaram said, “Though I did CC 17 year ago, I have been in touch with master (Prabhu Deva) often. We never started this project as CC2. A year back, I narrated a line to him and asked if we can work together. He liked it and asked me to work on it. Later when it came to a shape, it was Prabhu Deva who suggested we could keep the film’s title as Charlie Chaplin 2.”
On working with Prabhu Deva after a long gap, he said, “On the first day of shoot, I went and explained the scene and dialogues. He conceived it in his own style and got the shot okayed in the first take itself. I was literally amazed with the way he did it with utmost perfection. Being a filmmaker himself, he improvises a lot for better output. And we would continue our stint with Charlie Chaplin 3 and 4 and more to come.”
Luthfudeen Baasha, Chandhana, Ravi Mariya, Arvind Akash were present on the occasion. The movie will hit the screens on January 25.
