Kajal Agarwal who reprises Kangana Ranaut’s role in Paris Paris, the Tamil remake of the Bollywood smash hit Queen, says that though she was initially apprehensive about accepting the film, she feels contented after having completed a major chunk of the shoot.
“I watched Queen and was totally engrossed by Kangana’s performance. The story is about a girl and her metamorphosis from a larva into a butterfly. I have been wanting to do such a role for long,” Kajal says.
Apparently, there was some initial hesitation regarding the project on the actress’ part. “Now, the way it has shaped up gives me immense happiness,” she says.
Queen is simultaneously being remade in four south Indian languages — Tamil, Malayalam Telugu and Kannada, each with a different set of actors and a different name. Zam Zam, the Malayalam version, has Manjima Mohan playing the lead role; That’s Mahalakshmi, the Telugu version, has Tamannah reprising Kangana’s part, and Butterfly, the Kannada version, has Parul Yadhav essaying the protagonist.
“I am proud to be part of the Tamil remake,” the Thuppakki actress emphasises.
Talking about director Ramesh Arvind, she says, “Because he is an actor, he is able to introduce subtle nuances in a beautiful manner. He tries to make each and every scene as realistic as possible. In that way, he has been able to get the best out of me,” Kajal says, smiling.
Meanwhile, Ramesh asserts that Paris Paris is not a remake of Queen verbatim; some changes have been made to the script to suit local sensibilities.
Manu Kumaran is producing all four remakes, and he has roped in Amit Trivedi, who created music for the original, to work on the project.
