Actor and filmmaker Sasikumar, who plays a kabaddi coach in Kennedy Club speaks to DC as to why he chose to act in the sports film, her experience working with Bharathiraja and why direction took a back seat.
“I am a sports person basically. Right from my young age, I was part of all the games in school. After coming to films, I passionately watch all sports movies, irrespective of the language. It has been my dream to wield the megaphone for a sports based film. When Susienthiran offered me this role, although it is about a women’s kabaddi team, I didn’t want to let go this opportunity. And, in the present scenario, these stories need to be told. Though there’s a message, it is not preachy and KC will go well with all audiences,” Sasi says.
On sharing screen space with ace Bharathiraja, he says, “He essays my mentor in the film. And, I play a coach to his daughter in the film. There will be difference of opinion between us while taking important decisions. The director has played it up well in screenplay. Susee was also content that our portions have come out very well.”
When it was pointed out that he was one of the finest directors in Tamil cinema and whether direction has now taken a back seat, he says, “Even I want to go back to my first love — direction. But, somehow, I have committed to several films as an actor. Once I complete them, I would bounce back as a filmamker with a powerful story.”
