I don't want to stick to one genre: Om Prakash
Cinematographer Om Prakash has carved a name for himself through his visuals. Through these years, he has also managed to strike a balance between content-oriented films and also commercial ones. “I don’t want to stick to one genre. It will be boring and I love challenges at work. I work hard everyday to make every shot different from one another,” begins Om Prakash.
Basking in the success of his recent film, Aramm, the Yatchan cinematographer says, “When I was working in Kaashmora, Nayanthara suggested that I listen to Gopi Nainar’s story. At that time, I didn’t know she was doing the project. After listening to Gopi’s story, I told Nayan that it was incredible and then she confessed that she is a part of the project. I appreciated her for picking this realistic film.”
Having worked with Nayan in Aramm, Kaashmora and Arrambam, Om feels happy to have captured Nayanthara’s different portrayals. “Her characters in these three films are in stark contrast to one another. I’m fortunate to have captured them,” he shares, thanking her for bringing Aramm to him.
Om Prakash also adds that he had decided to use gray scale throughout Aramm as soon as he heard the story. “Gopi’s story spoke about a barren land and right from costumes to art direction, we used shades of grey everywhere. When it came to Nayan’s character, we designed her clothes that way. It needed elegance without any glamour. When we were filming the scenes where the young girl gets stuck in a borewell, we need to instill fear in the minds of the people. We used probe lens so that the audiences would feel closer to the child.”
The cinematographer is now gearing up for the shoot of Balaji Mohan’s Maari 2.
