Kaliru on honour killing
Tamil audiences are always receptive to new ideas and content-driven films. The latest one to join the list is a movie titled Kaliru, which talks about the sensitive topic of honour killings happening all across the country, which is being campaigned by selfish politicians for their own gains. “I am exposing the dirty truth behind these honour killings, which is based on several real-life incidents,” reveals its director G.J. Sathya.
Delving more on the subject, Sathya says, “Kaliru denotes a male elephant. You can find in Tamil literature that Kalirus used in war field behave in a wild manner when they are attacked. They do anything to save their lives. Similarly, those moneyed people in power will go to any extent to safeguard their position in politics. I am using ‘Kaliru’ as a metaphor. What happens if the victims turn against the opportunist politicians forms the crux of my film.” In order to not fall into any image trap, the director claims that he has chosen newcomers in lead roles.
The film has Vishwak and Anu Krishna in the lead and Deepa Jayan and Neeraja, among others, play supporting roles. D.J. Bala, a former assistant to Sukumar, cranks the camera for Kaliru, which is touted to be a realistic film without any commercial elements.
