Not playing a ‘glam role’, says Sona
Tamil actress Sona, the item girl-turned-producer who has also been doing supporting roles, has shifted her focus to Malayalam films and seems to be busy there.
The trailer of one of her M’town films, Pachamanga, which was released recently, shows her sporting a mundu, reflecting a popular local dressing style of the State. This spawned trolls saying she’s following the footsteps of semi-porn actress Shakeela (once a threat to superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty).
Sona has released a statement requesting people not to be judgmental on the strength of the glimpses of her show in the trailer. Pachamanga is a classic film, she says.
In her statement, she says she does not intend to do ‘glamorous roles’. The statement goes on to add thatthe film was shot two-and-a-half years ago and that she had issued a press release on its completion stating that she would not be doing ‘glam roles’ anymore.
“Pachamanga is a film with an emotional content made on the classic lines of Balu Mahendra Sir’s work. Just looking at my costumes, many have assumed that I have played a glamorous role, which is untrue. I have just replicated the way women dress in Kerala and haven’t crossed any limits. Therefore, I request not to spread rumours that I am playing such roles,” she concluded.
