With her debut movie Meesaya Murukku, Aathmika is experiencing unprecedented fame. The young actress is elated by the response and is busy with post- release promotions, hopping from one theatre to the other to know feedback of the audience. We managed to steal a few minutes of her time for a chat.
“While we always knew that the audience will like our film, we never imagined they would cheer almost every five minutes!” Aathmika begins, adding, “For a movie, which had two debutantes in the lead, the response has been amazing and I have been moved to tears.” Aathmika, who had been juggling between TV show hosting, modeling and acting in advertisements, landed the role in the film by chance. “Aadhi had spotted me on social media and got in touch. I met the team and they did a test shoot immediately. It took a while for me to accept the fact that I play the lead role in a film.”
Aathmika says that she is much like her character in Meesaya Murukku — sweet, practical and relatable. “I’m also very interested in Tamil. I love reading literature, poetry and I am proud of the language. So I’m also happy I could debut in a film that talks about Tamil a great deal.” She continues, “The best part about the film is that there are so many new talents being introduced through this. It was great to work with Aadhi. Just knowing someone who is passionate about the art of cinema feels good.”
The actress is all set to sign a new film too. “Yes, the official announcement will be out soon, but as of now, I’m just enjoying the success of the film and feeling grateful for all the love I’ve been getting,” she concludes.
