Filmmaker Saamy, who returns after a gap, is remaking the much-acclaimed Iranian movie Children of Heaven directed by ace Majid Majidi, in Tamil. It has been titled Akka Kuruvi.
Speaking about the film, Saamy says, “My earlier three movies, including Uyir and Mirugam, are not my identities. I feel Akka Kuruvi will give me that identity. Once, when my akka and her kids came to my place, we watched Children of Heaven. They all loved it and my sister asked why such films are not made in Tamil. I immediately decided to remake the film in Tamil and bought the rights.”
Seven-year-old Daavia and 11-year-old Maahin play sister and brother respectively. A pair of shoes is the pivot of the story.
Though he approached Ilaiyaraaja for music right at the start, the maestro apparently told him to come to him after completing the film. Now, having seen the film and being impressed with it, Isaignani had agreed to be part of AK.
Sharing yet another piece of info, Saami says, “I am inviting Majid Majidi for the audio launch of AK, which is scheduled for next month in the city”
