Legal challenge for Thalapathy Vijay
Thalapathy Vijay finds himself in legal hot water over his depiction of smoking in the first single, ‘Naa Ready’, from his film Leo. The song, released on Vijay’s birthday, June 22, has received an outpouring of support from fans, but it seems to have irked certain groups.
RTI Selvam, an activist from JJ Nagar in Chennai, has lodged a complaint against the Leo team for allegedly glorifying drug use and rowdyism in the song. After filing an online complaint on June 25, Selvam submitted a petition to the Chennai Police Commissioner on June 26. Reportedly, a case has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The lyric video of the song shows Vijay smoking a cigarette while hundreds of dancers hold beer mugs. Some netizens have accused Vijay of hypocrisy, given that he recently addressed students, emphasising the importance of good character and moral values.
However, many of Vijay’s fans have defended the actor, pointing out that on-screen actions don’t necessarily reflect personal beliefs or behaviour.
Leo, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is an action thriller featuring Vijay and Trisha in the lead, with Sanjay Dutt and Arjun playing key roles.
