Aandavan Kattalai to not go the Kaaka Muttai way'
Director Manikandan, who turned a lot of heads with his debut venture Kaaka Muttai, is now ready with two other ventures — Kutrame Thandanai and Aandavan Kattalai. The former has Vidharth in the lead role and has been screened at some film festivals.
On the other hand, Aandavan Kattalai, starring Vijay Sethupathi is currently in post-production. When asked if he was planning to take the movie to the film festival circuit ahead of its theatrical release, Manikandan says, “No. Aandavan Kattalai will have a direct theatrical release. On the other hand, Kutrame Thadani has taken the Kaaka Muttai route.”
Spilling the beans about the film, the national award-winning director reveals, “Aandavan... deals with the issue of fake passports — the characters in the film are desperate to go abroad and are ready to even pursue their dream using fake passports. But I have told the story in a comical way!”
Manikandan is all praise for the lead actor Vijay Sethupathi and his humility — “Since we have already worked together in short films, it was easy to do a film with him. He hasn’t changed a bit in course of time. Even after starring in 16 films, it is surprising to see that his modesty stayed intact!”
Ritika Singh of Irudhi Suttru fame is playing the female lead in the film. However, Manikandan says there won’t be much of a romantic segment between Sethupathi and her, since the film is more about the passport issue.
When we queried if his other film, Kutrame Thandani, has anything to do with the classic novel Crime and Punishment, the director says, “There are no similarities between the two. But since the script deals with guilt, I went ahead with the title.”
Meanwhile, Manikandan might join hands with Eros International for his next.
