Mr Chandramouli is a special movie: Gautham Karthik
Gautham Karthik, who has been facing a lot of flak for his appearance in a number of movies featuring adult content, including Hara Hara Mahadevaki and Iruttu Arayil Murattu Kutthu, has resolved not to be a part of such flicks any more.
Talking about his upcoming film Mr. Chandramouli, a commercial entertainer in which he shares screen space with his father, veteran actor Karthik, Gautham tells DC in an exclusive chat,
“Mr. Chandramouli is a special movie because I have acted alongside my appa. When I was young, I studied at a convent in Ooty, and appa was busy with his films. I hardly ever met him all those years. It was only after my debut with Mani Ratnam sir’s Kadal that I started interacting with appa. Now, having shared screen space with him, I have learnt more about him — how creative he is, and the speed at which he comprehends things. It’s all thanks to my director Thiru and my producer Dhananjayan.”
The filmmakers were apprehensive about approaching the senior actor to offer him the film. “Karthik sir is not an easy person to convince. None of us was willing to speak to him regarding this film about a father-son relationship. It was Gautham who took it upon himself to persuade his father and bring him on board,” Dhananjayan says.
Gautham, who is all praise for his co-star Regina, says, “She is a thorough professional. Our comfort levels were good and it was an awesome experience working with her. I am happy the beach song composed by Sam CS has gone viral. Brindha master, with whom I am working once again after Kadal, has added a sensuous flavour to it with energetic dance movements.”
Talking about Varalaxmi, who plays Bhairavi, around whom the story revolves, the actor says, “She is a firebrand, both on and off screen. How she boldly raises her voice for a cause in real life is to be appreciated.”
As a unique promotional strategy, a movie quiz mobile app has been launched exclusively for the film. People who answer questions based on the movie within the allotted time stand a chance to win exciting prizes. The film is slated for a July 6 release.
