Making an exception for VK
Actor/politician/writer Sarathkumar reveals the reasons behind his wife Radikaa relaxing her strict shooting rules for Mani Ratnam’s VaanamKottatum - including the one about not sharing screen space with him. The script was exceptional, for one thing, he says. The real-life couple plays a reel-life one in the film, acting together after 21 years.
“I was staying away from films for a while, and that’s when Dhana, a protégé of Mani Ratnam Sir, approached us for VaanamKottatum”, he told DC in an exclusive. “It was a fascinating subject about family relationships set in a rural milieu. We both loved it and gladly gave our nod. Both of us were clear about what our respective roles demanded and performed accordingly. So, we didn’t have to compete at any point of time”, he clarified.
“Radikaa is particular that she won’t work after 6p.m and on Sundays”, said Sarathkumar. But, “for VaanamKottatum, everything got relaxed. Dhana has crystal clarity about his scenes and takes. He never wastes time taking unnecessary shots.”
Asked to name one thing which he does not approve of in Radikaa, he said (smilingly) “her short-tempered nature.”
Sharing thesecret of his youthfulness and energy, he said, “I am a fitness freak. I hit the gym every day.”
Radikaa, on her part said, “Both of us are passionate about our work and hence we are able to bring out our best in various fields. In the past, many have approached us with scripts which we would both be a part of. But they were not appealing. Dhana’s script was really good and his writing was strong. Sarath’s is a power-packed role.”
She proudly revealed that both of them are strict about food habits. “He is a wonderful man and I love his perseverance. However, his benevolent nature without finding out if others really require help is one thing which bothers me”, she confessed
