450 Tamil films stuck in the can: RV Udhayakumar

Big heroes who charge nothing less than Rs 50 to 60 crores in K\'town are concerned only about the running of their films.

Ace filmmaker RV Udhayakumar lashed out at the A-Listers of Tamil cinema as selfish and self-centred.

Speaking at the audio launch of Thandagan, he said, “Big heroes who charge nothing less than Rs 50 to 60 crores in K'town are concerned only about the running of their films and not bothered about the general wellbeing of cinema.

This trend should change, and like in Hollywood they should take only part of the salary in advance and the rest from the collections of the film after the film's release”.

He added, “This system should come into existence. It is not something impossible to execute. There are about 450 completed films which are lying in cans. Even if on an average of Rs 2 cores was the budget of each film, approximately Rs 1,000 cores of money is stuck. I wonder why associations like TFPC, Producers Guild and Nadigar Sangam remain silent spectators. This situation should change,”
