Kolanji is all about understanding people
Samuthirakani’s films are known to be emotional and appealing to the family audience. Staying in tune with this, his next release Kolanji also has the same theme. Debutant Director Dhanram Saravanan tells DC, “Kolanji is the name of a character of an adolescent, who is central to the film. I could have given just any common name to him, but Kolanji gave it a unique feel. The film is all about the understanding between people — whether it be between a father and a son, or couples or anyone else.”
The most interesting part of the casting is Sanghavi, who is making her comeback in films. Explaining why he chose her, Dhanaram says, “Sanghavi was one of the top heroines of the 1990s and was the dream girl for many. The film is centred around and talks to people from that time period, and hence I thought it would be good to rope in Sanghavi for this role.”
Naveen, director of Moodar Koodam has produced the film, and has been friends with Dhanaram long before Kolanji fell in place. “Naveen and I discussed the film way back in 2008 and it has finally materialised.” Kolanji is slated for a May 5 release, along with Samuthirakani’s directorial Thondan. “I am happy that Thondan is releasing along with my film. Audiences will definitely watch good films,” Dhanaram quips.
