Appukutty demands a bigger salary after Vaazhga Vivasayi
When I cast actor Appukutty in Ahagar Samiyin Kuthirai as the lead protagonist (the role fetched him a national award), no actress came forward to play opposite him. I had a tough time to find one for the character-driven story rather than a hero. Now, after a long time, he has turned once again as the hero of a film titled Vaazhga Vivasayi, which is on farmers and I am happy that talented actress Vasundhra has agreed to play his pair in it,” remarked ace filmmaker Suseenthiran with whose film Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, he gained recognition.
Susee added, “Appukutty is a great performer and he has an amazing screen presence. I always tell him to choose good stories and act. After a gap, I am seeing him in a realistic character in Vaazhga Vivasayi. Thanks to director Ponni Mohan for casting an apt person for this genre as Appukutty is a farmer in real life. And kudos to producer Kathiresan for having faith in the script and bankrolling a film on agriculture and farmers.”
On why he accepted the film, Appukutty said, “I know the difficulties of a farmer as my parents worked as daily coolies in agricultural farms. I am also aware of farming practices. Hence I could relate to the story and perform naturally. And seeing farmer’s plight today, I felt that such issues need to be addressed and stories to be told.”
He also proudly added that he would command a bigger salary in future. “VV has made a business on this stage itself as ace producer Ravindhran Chandrashekar has come forward and agreed to release the film after watching the trailer and songs now.”
