Recently, veteran playback singer LR Eswari recorded a kutthu number in Dharan’s music direction, for the Ashwin Kakumanu-Janani Iyer-starrer Thollaikatchi. Dharan says, “This song Dindigul Dhratchai is akin her popular Kalasala and Poondhamallidhan Pushpa Vallidhan from Thadaiyara Thaaka. When I composed this song, I could only think of her — I felt only she can do justice to it. When I approached her, she immediately said ‘yes’!” he says. They finished recording the song in an hour, and Eshwari has crooned it in her inimitable style, we hear. “Eswari amma is such a talented singer, and I enjoyed working with her. She shared interesting experiences about how recordings happened in the past,” adds Dharan.
Directed by Sadiq Khan, Thollaikatchi is a romantic comedy with a social message. This film will be like Karagattakaran, which will take viewers to the golden era of ‘80s. We hear that the screenplay is quite satirical in places.
