Bengali girl Upasana RC going places in Kollywood
The self-effacing, unassuming and sensible kollywood actress Upasana RC is unlike her other counterparts in the film industry, who can be somewhat pretentious. Upasana is very exhilarated after her performance was appreciated in the recently released movie Karuthukalai Pathivu Sei, directed by Rahul Paramahamsa. The film is about a sexual assault victim who narrates her harrowing experiences on a television show. The film seemed even more relevant after the Pollachi sex scam in Tamil Nadu.
Born into a Bengali family staying in Vadodara Gujarat, Upasana did her graduation in software engineering from Bengaluru. She got placement in IBM but decided to follow her passion and took part in Elite Miss India contest where she was selected as Elite Miss India Asia.
In a candid conversation she says, “I was a professional dancer in Bengaluru. During my engineering I got a call for an audition in a Kannada movie. I got selected in the Kannada movie CIB. The shoot happened during my college days itself. I was selected as Elite Miss India Asia in the year 2015 and got a call for first film in the year 2016.”
Her first Tamil movie Enbathettu got released in 2017 soon after which she worked with renowned filmmaker S.A. Chandrasekar in Traffic Ramasamy in 2018 where she played the role of doctor (Fathima). During the shoot of Traffic Ramasamy she attended an open audition call for Karuthukalai Pathivu Sei.
“I play the role of Bharathi in this movie. The shoot happened in and around a village in Chennai for 25 days. The story is about a girl who lost her parents at an early age. She befriends a guy through social media and falls in love with him. She travels to Chennai to be with him and quickly realises that she has fallen into a trap. The story revolves around social media exploitation and how she comes out of the difficult situation. As Bharathi has lived her life alone she believes in people easily who shows compassion towards her but willing to fight back in case of betrayal,” she explains.
Upasana has recently completed the shoot of another Tamil movie Shortcut directed by Dhaneshwar. It is based on political crimes.
