Malayalam Actor says Amitabh, Rajinikanth cannot act

Recalling his experience on the sets of Vettaiyan, the Malayalam actor revealed that he took up the role primarily to witness the legendary performances of Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth, and the video has gone viral

At a recent press meet ahead of the release of Narayaneente Moonnaanmakkal, veteran Malayalam actor Alencier Ley Lopez shared his thoughts on working in Tamil cinema. Recalling his experience on the sets of Vettaiyan, he revealed that he took up the role primarily to witness the legendary performances of Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth, and the video has gone viral.

“I didn’t take home a single rupee as remuneration,” Alencier admitted. “They sent me a flight ticket to Mumbai and put me up in a five-star hotel. My role? A judge, sitting for one shot. But what mattered most was who I was sitting next to—Amitabh Bachchan sir on one side and Rajinikanth sir on the other.”
Alencier explained that his decision to accept the role, even if it was just for a brief moment, stemmed from a deep curiosity about the craft of these two cinematic giants.
“During my pre-degree days, I watched a film where Rajini sir stopped a flying helicopter with his teeth. I wanted to see how he approached acting in real life,” he recalled. “The shoot lasted just a day. Rajinikanth performed his signature stylized acting—using his body language, his walk, and his aura. Then, Amitabh Bachchan’s character roared like a lion, leaving the judge—my character—stunned.”
Reflecting on the experience, Alencier confessed that he quickly understood he couldn't compete with their styles. “I don’t have Rajinikanth’s flair for stylized acting, nor do I have Amitabh Bachchan’s thunderous voice. All I can do is act in films by directors like Dileesh Pothan, Sharan Venugopal, and Rajeev Ravi,” he said. “That’s when I realized—they cannot act.”
Vettaiyan also featured Malayalam superstars Fahadh Faasil and Manju Warrier, whose talents, Alencier pointed out, were largely underutilized in the film.
