Mamta Kulkarni embraces spiritual path

Mamta Kulkarni, a well-known Bollywood actress from the 1990s, has embraced a spiritual path and officially taken 'sanyas,' becoming a Sadhvi. On Friday morning, she visited the Kinnar Akhara during the Mahakumbh, where she met Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Dr. Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi and sought her blessings. The two engaged in an hour-long discussion about Kulkarni's potential appointment as Mahamandaleshwar. Dressed in saffron attire, with a Rudraksha garland around her neck and a saffron bag over her shoulder, Mamta's transformation into a Hindu monk is captured in a video that has been widely shared on social media. She has now adopted the spiritual name Shri Yamai Mamta Nandgiri.

Later that day, Mahamandaleshwar Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi accompanied Mamta Kulkarni to meet All India Akhara President Ravindra Puri. During the meeting, Mamta expressed her views on religion and shared an anecdote referencing Lord Ram’s time in the Chitrakoot forest and a dialogue between Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati.

Reflecting on her experience at the Mahakumbh, Mamta said, “Coming to Mahakumbh and witnessing its grandeur is a truly memorable moment for me. It is my good fortune to be part of this sacred event.”

Commenting on the development, Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Laxmi Narayan said, “Kinnar Akhara is appointing Mamta Kulkarni, the former Bollywood actress, as a Mahamandaleshwar. She has been named Shri Yamai Mamta Nandgiri. As we speak, all rituals are being completed. Mamta has been connected with the Kinnar Akhara and me for the past year and a half. She is welcome to perform any devotional art or role, as we impose no restrictions on such expressions.”
