Dharma Productions has signed Haneef Adeni, the director of the recent commercial and critical Malayalam cinematic success, Marco for an upcoming action film. The film promises to be a high-impact actioner with a strong beating heart.
Haneef has an impressive filmography to his name, from The Great Father in 2017 to Marco in 2024. Haneef etched his niche with the gruesome relentless action film.
Bringing his forte and a keen eye towards slick and real thrill that has hooked audience, Adeni is ready to lead this new film with Dharma Productions which is said to be made in Hindi and other languages as well.
Dharma Productions who have kickstarted 2025 with positive steps towards expanding their cinematic journey, such as introducing their distribution wing and on the cusp of many releases lined up for the upcoming months, ranging in different genres. The onboarding of Haneef Adeni promises a fresh wave of promising big-screen action for the production house.
In a conversation with Deccan Chronicle, the director expressed his excitement about his Bollywood debut with Dharma Productions, calling it a dream come true. While keeping details under wraps, he confirmed his debut film will be an action-packed one.
Having signed for the Hindi actioner debut film with the Dharma Productions, what would you like to say?
It was always my dream to work in the Bollywood and getting to work with a renowned production house none other than Dharma, it’s like a dream come true. I cannot talk about the project right now. The announcement will be made by the production house soon through a press release.
How did your association come about with the Dharma Productions?
They called me up and I visited the Dharma office in Mumbai. I met Karan [Johar] and discussed it.
Did you expect this association with Bollywood to occur because “Marco” was a hit?
I was looking forward to working in Bollywood and happy to have received a call from the well-known Dharma productions.
Will this Hindi debut be an action film, given your success with “Marco” in this genre?
Yes, you are right. It will be an action genre.
So, will you cast Malayalam actors or all Hindi actors?
No, Malayalam actors in this debut directorial film of mine. All are Hindi actors. It’s going to be a totally Bollywood kind of a movie.
Debuting as director in the Hindi film industry and a Pan India film, your take?
Right, I'm debuting as a director in The Bollywood industry. It’s going to be a pan Indian movie. Right now, I'm unable to express my feelings. Since I'm all set to direct my debut film here. In fact, I'm also waiting for the results.
Which actor would you like to work with in this debut film of yours? Is the script locked?
I can't take names of any actor right now. The script has been locked and the script writing is going on. I cannot reveal the background of the film. Indeed, I can't reveal anything about the project.
Do you feel off-late most Bollywood production houses are looking up to the South directors as their films bring success and bagful of booty at the box office?
Bollywood is the number one industry. I think filmmakers from Bollywood have so much potential. Bollywood’s latest release, ”Chhaava” is a huge hit at the box office. I have seen the film and I like the entire film, especially Akshaye Khanna and Vicky Kaushal’s exuberant performances.
