Director: Mudassar Aziz
Cast: Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, Rakul Preet Singh and Harsh Gujral.
Produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh.
Mudassar Aziz’s films have intriguing titles and stories in and around husband and wife. He seems to touch upon the tender theme of human relationships with his films, including Dulha Mil Gaya, Happy Bhag Jayegi, Khel Khel Mein, and now Mere Husband Ki Biwi. Also, if one may refresh their memory, this type of story where the heroines are busy fighting to get the hero were mostly witnessed on the big screen, particularly remakes of South Indian films. Mudassar’s rom-com makes it a little different and the intriguing storyline undeniably transports us to that era.
In the opening scene, Bhumi re-emerges and wishes to get Arjun back in her life and the scene reflects some horror whimsical acts. However, as the story continues showcasing some flashbacks and flash forwards bringing all the characters to light, we note that Arjun, Bhumi and Rakul Preet and Harsh have studied in the same college. Bhumi’s character loses her heart to Arjun and in the first-half she is seen having a sarcastic and jealous attitude towards Rakul Preet in college which goes forward in the second half as well. Well, how Bhumi gets into Arjun's heart and also why and how Rakul Preet enters Arjun's life forms the crux of the story. Who is the biwi and why this captivating title, in order to know that one needs to watch this triangular romantic rom-com.
Direction: Director Mudassar Aziz has tried to depict the modern-day relationships amalgamating it with comic elements. He has also tried to depict how difficult it is to be able to live under one roof if there is no love and respect. Respect and compatibility will take relationships ahead and if this goes missing then marriage life gets hell.
Cast/credit performances: Bhumi Pednekar gives standout performance as the heroic center of this capitulating comedy. From her explosive college days to her nagging wife, she effortlessly portrays a range of unconventional behaviors, even losing her memory. Her performance is nothing short of exceptional, showcasing her ability to deliver the best of the craziest acts with utmost skill and talent. She ignites some spice in this impulsive love triangle, keeping your eyes glued to her every move on screen.
Arjun Kapoor’s character has been often seen confused while taking decisions. Being grinded between two girls and being indecisive, he has portrayed his character aptly well. Arjun’s enigmatic performances are worth being appreciated. His act of turning restless for Bhumi during emotional scenes, needless to state, have been indeed performed vibrantly.
Rakul Preet Singh fits the character well with her attitude. She looks beautiful in her fashionably dressed attire and performs the character well.
Harsh Gujral who debuts with,” Mere Husband Ki Biwi’ has the best humour lines and also given his best shot. He is very natural and his performance will definitely attract the attention of the audiences and will be the talking point. With this film he will surely get an open arm reception in Bollywood.
Negative Points
The first half is catchy and creates much needed involvement as well enthusiasm but no sooner the mid-point arrives in the story line, the strings seem to be loosening a bit. The second half again turns gripping when the who’s who like all relatives gather for the big fat Scotland wedding, which regains some happening moments creating much needed excitement.
Screenplay should have been a little tight. Dialogues are good enough especially Harsh has wonderful dialogues that leave you in splits. He brings lighter moments of laughter.
Editing could have been faster and sharper. The lengthy scenes felt bit dragging, especially the hospital sequences where the family is trying to keep Bhumi happy and also the trail of cars rushing to the Airport could have been chopped a bit.
Music is just fine, nothing to vouch about.
Final Verdict: This love triangle rom-com is worth watching because it showcases the true colors of women towards each other and the unfortunate man caught in the middle of their games.
