My next film Appa' will bring social issues to fore: Samuthirakani
Filmmaker—actor Samuthirakani will play a baddie in the Vijay Sethupathi, Madonna-starrer Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum. “My character makes it entry towards the climax and it’s a cameo. When director Nalan Kumarasamy approached me with the script, I really wanted to do it. I don’t play a villain, but someone with shades of grey. Usually, I say ‘yes’ when I like the director and the character,” he smiles.
Kani is also excited about Visaranai, which will hit screens next month. “Right from set assistants to the director — everybody has put in so much hard work. The film has been talked about everywhere even before its release. I am glad to be a part of it,” he tells DC.
And what’s next? “I have directed and produced a movie titled, Appa, in which I play the lead. The film has no heroine and Ilaiyaraaja sir scores the music. Appa focuses on the relationship between a father and son and hence that title! It would be like a sequel to Saatai. The stories have nothing in common except the fact that they bring social issues to the fore,” he concludes.
