Man of journeys

Sankar Induchoodan who plays a cricket fan in Rakshadhikari Baiju Oppu shares his debut acting experience.

For debutant Sankar Induchoodan, the movie Rakshadhikari Baiju Oppu, was a life changing one. It provided him a new direction in his life that he should take acting forward. Sankar, who plays Hari Kumbalam in the movie, one of the prominent characters, is extremely happy about the positive feedback.

“Hari is a cricket fanatic,” says Sankar, who is an entirely different person off-screen. “For Hari, cricket is his world. He is not involved in any other activities. But, I am loud and love travelling. I have been to many places and have written travelogues. Each journey is inspiring. During a trip to the Himalayas, I met a few people, whose stories were quite interesting. I love to talk and make friends,”

He became a part of Rakshadhikari Baiju through a casting call. “The offer came through Merlin Babu. Later, I talked to Ranjan sir,” says Sankar. “Movies have always been my passion. I admire certain performances by Mammukka and Lalettan. The way they define acting in some narratives is remarkable,” says Sankar, who was part of theatre earlier. “It is my friend Arjun Thomas who widened my knowledge about cinema. We talk a lot about cinema.”

Talking about his experience with Biju Menon on the sets, Sankar says, “He was our ‘Rakshadhikari’ off the screen too. A dedicated actor, he was there on the set during most of the days. During our combination scenes, I had problems with timing of dialogue delivery. In such situations, he would correct me and encourage me. The same was his attitude with everyone on the sets. The whole shooting was fun. Everyone, including the local people, was totally supportive,” says Sankar, who is a Taxation Law student at Dehradun. A final year student, he is now busy preparing for his final year examination.

“Now, I feel that I should take acting forward. Meanwhile, I want to complete my graduation,” he says.
