Making a steady move
Acting was never a part of her plans. “It was purely accidental,” says Durga Krishna, who made her debut in Vimaanam. She even rejected an opportunity to act at a very young age. However, it was not easy to say ‘no’ to Vimaanam because of the role and, of course, the cast. Now, she is eagerly waiting for her second movie Pretham 2 to release.
“After Vimaanam, I heard many scripts and had discussions. I wanted to commit roles that I can relate to and at the same time, it should sound interesting. When Ranjith sir briefed me the script of Pretham 2, I really liked my character and I knew it would be fun. So, I never had a second thought before saying ‘yes’ to that huge offer,” says Durga.
Asked about the experience of working with Ranjith Sankar and Jayasurya, she says, “I learned many new things and never had any pressure on the set. I had a great time with the team. Everyone was supportive. I could create a special rapport with them all — Saniya, Amith Chakalakkal, Dain Davis and Sidhartha Siva. They were all very friendly.”
Pretham 2, a sequel to the 2016 horror-comedy Pretham which starred Jayasurya, Aju Varghese, Shruthi Ramachandran, Pearly Maaney and Sharaf U Dheen in lead roles, will be Jayasrurya’s seventh movie with director Ranjith Sankar. Following its trailer release, the makers promised that the film would be darker than the first part and it looks like the director has given more important to the character John Don Bosco, played by Jayasurya. The trailer features some scenes from the iconic Varikkassery Mana where some kind of supernatural events are taking place. When asked about Durga’s character in the film, she says, “Even in the trailer, we have not given any clue about the character and I don’t want to spoil the surprise element. But I can assure you that it is a totally different character from the one in Vimaanam.”
During the conversation, Durga talked more about her love for dance. Everything else, including acting, seems secondary for her. “I have been a classical dancer since a very young age and if I have to choose between dancing and acting, I would easily choose dancing. Dancing is my first priority” She, however, had to take a break due to an injury that even could have ended her dancing career, but she came back to the stage like a true professional. Following the injury, she took a short break from dancing and that’s when she tried her luck in modelling. She was chosen as Miss Beautiful Face in the Miss Malabar beauty pageant.
Durga is now doing stage performances and has a few film projects including Kuttimama, which has Sreenivasan and Dhyan Sreenivasan in the lead roles. She is really excited about the release of Pretham 2 which would hit the screens on Christmas eve, and hopeful of its success.
