Movie'ing in Gopi style
It was just another Facebook update but musician Gopi Sunder’s announcement on his 500K plus liked official page aroused a lot of interest — film production is to be his next big idea. We have a barrage of 5Ws and one H questions eagerly waiting in the queue, only to be encountered by Sunder in just one precise reply, “we are too early into it.” That he broke the news on social media aside, the film production company cannot even be called to be in its infancy for the time being.
“The thought has been incubating for a long time. I expect things to fall in place by 2018 end. Everything else is highly confidential right now,” says Sunder. He divulges a bit more, that his production company, Gopi Sunder Film Company, would focus solely on Malayalam movies.
This is his third single venture after his house of music, Gopi Sunder Music Company, and music band ‘Band Big G’. The music company has been growing from strength to strength. The latest is the publishing and distribution of music for Dulquer Salmaan’s Comrade in America (CIA).
Sunder connects this diversity with his interest to nurture the businessman side in him. “A music director doing business is uncommon in Malayalam film industry, I suppose,” he says.
Band Big G, the music band, took shape with an assorted team of professional singers and musicians back in June 2016. The inaugural show took place at Al Nasr Leisureland in Dubai. “Band Big G has rare occurrences. We have a mix of professional musicians and it is not every time that the band does a show. The band is yet to have a Kerala launch. In November, there is a plan to have a takeoff here. Our next show is slated in Kuwait for November,” he says.
The busiest musician has a fully laden kitty at hand with back-to-back projects in Mollywood. The list has upcoming releases Chunkzz, Rama Leela, Vimanam, Captain, Tiyaan, Kammara Sambhavam and Pokkiri Simon. Above all, Gopi Sunder is working on three projects in Tollywood.
