Finally, a place in the sun
It is happiness overload at the Nedumangad residence of director V.C. Abhilash. Winning accolades back-to-back has only increased his humility, at the same time, he is pained at the reception accorded to his movie by the theatres. First, he wants to say what has happened to his film Aalorukkam before proceeding to speak about bagging the national honour for the best film on social issues.
“Aalorukkam is a movie that has won a rating of 9.2 out of 10 on IMBD, when the films released along with it had not touched the mark. But the movie has been denied its due in the places where it is being screened. The film is running in just 10 theatres in Kerala. Sadly, a theatre owned by KSFDC in Kozhikode has allotted two screenings, one at 11 am and the other at 2 pm. This is when viewers have been giving good reviews and calling up to congratulate me. We’d be grateful if the movie is given a better recognition by the cine halls,” says Abhilash.
Aalorukkam touches upon the choice of gender, a topic of social relevance, in a beautifully woven tale. A story of the same name Abhilash wrote in 2011 went on to be a quick screenplay in 14 days. “It was planned to be told in another way. When I approached the producer, I was told to tell a story of social commitment. I rewrote the script in a short time and the film was made. The national recognition has come as an icing on the cake. Moreover, I am overjoyed to hear that Indransettan was a strong contender for the best actor award,” says Abhilash.
