A bindaas wedding video
A popular face in the city’s fashion and modelling scene, Ashwathy Warrier got married to Abhilash Unnikrishnan in a grand wedding held at Kerala last month. Currently, settled in the UK, her wedding video, a cover of the catchy ‘I am a Mallu’ music video by Rinosh George has gone viral! In a WhatsApp call, an excited Ashwathy talks about the video and how her family got the correct steps and perfect lip-syncing for the same. “All credit goes to my sister Divya Warrier, a Bollywood choreographer,” she says.
“Two days before my wedding, she suggested doing a lip dub video. It’s a trend in north Indian weddings, but not that popular down south. We liked the idea and decided to go ahead with it. The next obvious question was about the song — “My cousins, sister and I were finalising the song for the video and we happened to bump into the song I am a Mallu. It has got interesting and quirky lyrics. Everyone liked it and we asked our wedding photography and videography team, SDS Studio, to include it. Much to our surprise, they agreed to it and were very excited about the whole process,” Ashwathy reminisces.
Her relatives and friends who appeared in the video did a remarkable job as well. “My husband and my family members are fun-loving and were sportive enough to be a part of the video. They brilliantly coordinated with the steps and lip-synching. The SDS Studio team shot the video during my sangeet and wedding. And my sister made sure that everything went all according to plan! My cousins Kiran Warrier and Anirudh Panikker, helped my sister and she choreographed the entire song very beautifully.”
Never in her wildest dreams did she think the video would go viral. “The SDS Studio team shot it very aesthetically and edited it sharply. Everyone was really surprised and thrilled to see the final output. I’ve heard comments like: ‘It’s obvious that all the family and guests seemed to have a blast at the wedding since they could feel the energy and fun through the video’ and a lot of them who couldn’t make it for the event felt bad that they missed a chance to be a part of this fun outing,” beams the young model.
