After completing his masters in advertising, Vivek Aryan, a young man from Thrissur, with the dream of becoming a filmmaker joined an advertising company. Now, eight years later, he is preparing for his directorial debut. Vivek, who has assisted Jeethu Joseph in his movies like Memories and Drishyam, says this is a dream come true.
His first film Ormayil Oru Shishiram is set to begin shooting in August. The pre-production works are almost done and one song has also been completed. Deepak Parambol, who has acted in movies like Ottamuri Velicham, will play the lead role in Ormayil Oru Shishiram.
An excited Vivek says, “Before assisting Jeethu chettan in Memories, I had done two Tamil short films that were nominated to film festivals. Though I started off my career as an ad-maker, I always wanted to become a filmmaker. After directing the short films, I realised there is a filmmaker in me.”
The movie Ormayil Oru Shishiram is a story that talks about a lost love. “It is a very simple, straightforward love story. We all have a love story to remember. Whether it is successful or not, we all cherish it, especially the first love. As it is a love story, music plays a big role in this and there will be a number of songs in it. We have already finished one song and are now working on the next. We will start filming at Thalassery,” says Vivek.
The story is written by Vishnu Raj and the screenplay is by Sivaprasad C.G. and Appu Sreenivas Nair.
Though he watches all genres, he’s partial to thrillers. “As a film buff, I watch all types of movies. I am a great fan of thrillers. But that does not stop me from watching other genres like drama, action and so on,” he says.
He believes the new wave in Malayalam cinema is progressing in the right direction. “Films like Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, Maheshinte Prathikaram and most recently Ee. Ma. Yau have set a standard that is not easy to conquer. Newcomers like me are inspired by these films,” he shares. Vivek’s wife Amrutha is his pillar of strength and she also assists him in the movie.
Actress Anaswara will play the female lead in the movie. The other cast members include Eldho, Sam and James Devassya.
