It has been around two years since Rajeev Ravi’s second directorial venture Njan Steve Lopez reached the theatres. One of the attractions of that film was that it marked the debut of Farhaan Faasil, the younger son of director Fazil and brother of Fahadh Faasil. Though the film got good comments from critics and film buffs, the lead actor was not seen in any films post Njan Steve Lopez.
Now, after a big gap, Farhaan is gearing up to make a comeback with Aneesh Anwar’s Basheerinte Premalekhanam. Farhaan says the gap was not a planned one. “I got a good launch with Rajeevettan’s Njan Steve Lopez. So I became more conscious while selecting my second film. To be frank, majority of the films which came to me had the shades of Steve Lopez and the rest failed to impress me,” says the actor, who had committed to two films before Basheerinte Premalekhanam.
“It was very recently that I became part of Basheerinte… Before that, I had agreed to do two films, which were supposed to start rolling last year. But owing to certain issues, one of those films got shelved and the second one got postponed. But I was not completely free during that period. As I like to travel a lot, I packed my bags and went for trips with my friends,” he says.
Farhaan says that it is the story of Basheerinte Premalekhanam that got him hooked to the project. “In fact, I was waiting for some modern characters, which I can see around me. It was then Aneesh came with this project. When I read the story, I found it interesting and forced myself to forget the modern roles,” he quips.
When it comes to his role, he says, “My character’s name is Basheer and the film is set against the backdrop of 1980s. That is all I can tell you about my role and film now,” he says.
Farhaan, who has degree in Visual Communication, says that all he can do is cinema. “From my childhood itself, my dream was to enter tinsel town, as I was keen in doing creative works. I cannot fit in a 9-5 job. That was why I chose visual communication for graduation,” says the actor.
Quizzed about his direction plan, he says, “I cannot talk about that right now. But if I am free when my dad comes up with his next directorial venture, I will definitely assist him.”
