Rumours of romance not true: Priyaa Lal
A show that has merited top billing and loyal viewers who were completely hooked to the comic timing and repartee of the actor/host who is at the top of his game — Suraj Venjaramoodu completely unplugged in Comedy Super Nights. Stepping into his shoes was a challenge and for a greenhorn, a formidable trial by fire! When young actor Priyaa Lal was offered an opportunity to host the second season of the show along with co-host Vinay Forrt, she had her reservations which she expressed to the makers.
“I always wanted to try something different and though I have done cricket commentaries and anchoring before, I have never ever tried my hand at hosting a comedy show. Yes, I was sceptical because it was a very successful show and replacing Suraj was a tall order. I initially told the producers that I was not looking at something like this but on second thoughts, I thought I should attempt something I have not tried before. This show is a platform where I could project my talent and is more creative. The show offers me the opportunity to meet and interact live with people every day.”
Each passing day has Priyaa gaining confidence and she is very upbeat judging from the comments coming in. She states, “The best part is that I get comments — good and bad — every day because the show is from Monday to Thursday. Like a film, I don't have to wait for a Friday to get the bouquets or the brickbats; it's instant reactions!” Priyaa also mentions that not many in the audience were aware that she spoke Malayalam fluently. The viewers may be pardoned for that belief— Priyaa is from Liverpool in England and she is staying in Kochi to pursue a career in films. Her brother and mother are still based there and Priyaa does miss them.
Films are also happening and Priyaa is in talks for a Tamil-Telugu bi-lingual. Though she has shifted base to Kerala to follow her passion, Priyaa is in no hurry to sign every film that comes her way. Priyaa has acted in films Janakan and Kunthapura and she says, “I eventually understood that there was no point in just signing movies. I want roles where I can perform and I am waiting for the right role.”
Priyaa was in the news recently when she was tagged as Baahubali star Prabhas’s fiancée. The rumour spread like wildfire with her photos being splashed across social media and channels. She jokes, “That was news to me too. I do not know how the news originated and it was my friends who informed me of the rumours. I chose not to react to the news but it is still circulating. I prefer to think of it as an episode of Comedy Super Nights!”
