Krishna Sanker in new avatars
Though it was as an assistant cinematographer he started his film career, it was when he came on screen with a cult dialogue - Ith kanno atho kaanthamo with Nivin Pauly-starrer Neram, he became a noted figure among the film buffs. Krishna Sanker alias Kichu, who later mesmerised the audience with the role of Koya — George’s best buddy in Alphonse Puthren’s Premam, is now back in action, after a small gap, with two films — V. K. Prakash’s Marubhoomiyile Aana and Kunchacko Boban-starrer Valliyum Thetti Pulliyum Thetti.
Krishna Sanker, who is noted for supporting roles and buddy characters in his previous projects, is now essaying a key role in Marubhoomiyile Aana, which has Biju Menon in the lead. “It was around three months ago; I got the call to this project through Ajay David Kachapally, who is the cinematographer of this film. I know him from past few years. When I was the assistant of Manoj Pillai sir, he was assisting Venu sir. Ajay called me and gave me a brief of the subject. Later, we went together to the house of screenwriter Y.V. Rajesh, where he narrated the script,” says the actor about how he became part of the film.
“In this film, I act as Suku, a pukka villager. When Suku faces a financial crisis, he leaves for Dubai with the help of his close friend. It is how he meets Biju (Menon) ettan’s sheikh,” says Krishna Sanker, who is sharing screen space with Biju for the first time. “Though I have acted in his Bhaiyya Bhaiyya, we had no combination scenes. It is a great experience working with Biju ettan, who always gives importance to the perfection of the scene,” says the actor who comes up in a new avatar in Valliyum Thetti Pulliyum Thetti.
Krishna Sanker says his friendship with Chackochan is the factor which led him to VTPT. “I have earlier worked with Chackochan in Lijin Jose’s Law Point. It was he who called me to this project. Last September, he called me and said there is such a project, which would begin production in October. It was later, its director Rishi Sivakumar and co-writer Paul came to me with the script. More than the script, it was their style of narration which attracted me to this project. They were playing the background score on a laptop, when the script narration was happening. That was a new experience for me,” says the actor, who acts as ‘Gagan from Bombay’ in Valliyum Thetti Pulliyum Thetti.
