A' certificate for Paikutty

Pradeep Nalanda, a drama artiste who played a notable character in the movie Palerimanikyam, does the main role in Paikutty.

Paikutty, an upcoming Malayalam movie has got ‘A’ certificate from Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for showing a calf as the main character. The film releases on May 25. Pradeep Nalanda, a drama artiste who played a notable character in the movie Palerimanikyam, does the main role in Paikutty. He will be seen in the role of a speech-impaired character named Shambu. “In Kuwait, we got the censor clearance with ‘U’. But the situation in India is completely different. We got an ‘A’ certificate citing the reason that the film has scenes of cow,” says Pradeep.

Set against a rural backdrop, the movie revolves around the relationship between a calf and the protagonist, who is speech-impaired. The censor board removed as many as 25 shots from the film that showed cow as the central figure, which the crew found unusual and unacceptable. “We do not know where to draw the line when it comes to creative freedom. There are many movies which showed vulgarity than this,” he added.
