It's homecoming for Bejoy Nambiar
Bejoy Nambiar is one of the most discussed Malayalis in B’town, where he debuted with a new-age film titled Shaithan bankrolled by Anurag Kashyap. Later, he wielded the megaphone for Hindi-Tamil bilingual David and recently Amitabh Bachchan-Farhan Akthar-starrer Wazir. Now after finding his feet in Bollywood and Kollywood, Bejoy is all set to debut in his mother tongue.
For his Mollywood debut, he has got a big name from the industry to essay the lead role —Dulquer Salmaan. Confirming the news exclusively to DC, the director tells us, “Yes, my next film will be in Malayalam. It has been my dream for the past few years to do a film in my mother tongue. Now I am ready with the project. Dulquer will be doing the lead role.”
Bejoy says the film will start rolling in October. “It will be produced by my own banner Getaway films in association with Abaam films. We are still on the casting stage for the rest of the characters,” he says. It is the seventh production venture of Getaway films. Quizzed about the genre of the film, he says, “As of now, I cannot reveal more about the storyline. All I can say is that I am trying something new; something that has not been tried in Malayalam.”
Though it is his very first feature venture in mother tongue, he has earlier directed a short film Rahu in 2008 which speaks Malayalam. Apart from that, he has directed a silent short film Reflections with Mohanlal in the lead. Reflections was produced by Bejoy himself. After Wazir, Bejoy was busy with working in the direction department of his mentor Maniratnam’s upcoming film Kaatru Veliyidai.
