It has been 14 years since Jomol decided to bid adieu to the film industry, where she was active as an actress since 1989 till her marriage with Chandrashekhar Pillai. The actress who changed her name to Gauri, later completely shifted her focus to her family matters and is now gearing up to make a comeback through national award-winning filmmaker V.K. Prakash’s upcoming film Careful. Interestingly, Jomol had bagged the national award (special jury mention) for her performance in Ennu Swantham Janakikkutty.
On her decision to face the movie camera after a long gap, she says, “Of course it is just because the film is being directed by V.K. Prakash that I agreed to act. He is our family friend for the past few years. So when he approached me for a film, I said yes as I was pretty sure that he did not call me for an unimportant role. In fact, each and every actor who appears in front of the camera has equal importance in the film.”
Jomol tells us that she will be essaying a role of a housewife in the movie. “I am pairing opposite Vineeth Kumar in the film. It was through the same movie — Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha — that both of us entered the film industry 28 years back. Now it is with him that I am making a comeback,” a happy Jomol says. The actress had got a few offers before Careful. “I did get a few offers, but I said no to all those as I did not find any of them interesting. It was in November. VKP called me for the film which I found worth doing,” says Jomol whose film is slated to start production in January.
