Kochi: The general body meeting of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists on Sunday decided to restore the membership of actor Dileep in the association. He was expelled after being arraigned as an accused in the case related to the abduction and rape of a co-star.
The association took the decision after finding that his expulsion will not stand “technically”. It said Dileep can come back if he wished to do so.
As soon as the general body meeting began in the morning, actress Urmila Unni brought up the issue to the notice of the members. “I raised the question whether the association has decided anything on Dileep’s return for all the members of AMMA. That was not my concern alone, but of the majority,” she told DC.
According to new general secretary Edavela Babu, the actor was expelled on special circumstances and it was not based on the association’s regulations.
