High on confidence
It’s Friday again and Malayali audiences are eagerly waiting for the release of yet another movie starring their favorite superstar, Mammootty. Uncle, that releases today, has been a talked about subject among film enthusiasts for quite some time for several reasons. One of the most important ones being the script itself. The story of the movie has been written by actor-director-scriptwriter Joy Mathew. The actor, who has donned the hat of scriptwriter after a sabbatical of six years, is pretty confident about Uncle and even went on to post on his Facebook page that he is very positive about the fate of the film. He also mentioned he has left it to the audiences to decide if he should continue making films or not. His last movie as a writer was Shutter.
The actor’s post has received mixed responses and his jovial way of responding to almost all the comments has worked in favour of the movie and Uncle, unlike other movies, is getting promoted through social media in a unique manner.
Responding to the reactions his post has gathered, Joy says, “I was really surprised to see how critical the Malayali audiences are. It is really overwhelming that people genuinely want good scripts and do not miss a chance to applaud good scripts. The support I am receiving is immense and this, in turn, has increased the sense of responsibility in me.”
However, the veteran actor says these expectations don’t frighten him. When asked if he really meant what he has written in his post, he quips, “I have done only the story, script and dialogues for Uncle. So even if I stop all these, the option of directing is always open, right?” He is full of praise for the lead of the movie, Mammootty, who according to Joy is a phenomenal actor. He feels the movie will undoubtedly become one of the milestones in his acting career.
Responding to the rumors of Mammootty being the antagonist in the movie, Joy giggles and says every question will be answered once the movie is out and he is confident the fans will wait till then.
The thread of the movie, which Joy got from a conversation with his daughter, according to him, will make its way to the audience’s hearts as it is something everyone faces in different situations. “A thought of whom I can trust and send my daughter with in my absence triggered the entire script for the movie. Moreover, the fact that the taste of cinema has changed for the audiences over the years will also work in my favor as Uncle deals with realities that can take place in any family. I am sure that it will be an awesome movie that will once again cement the status of Mammootty as an actor in the industry,” he concludes.
