When Ananya first listened to the story of Tiyaan, what caught her attention was the name of the movie. It was something she could easily relate to. Her father is a document-writer and Ananya grew up seeing him using the word ‘Tiyaan’ in every document he wrote. "Some days he would write documents during night, sitting at home. Then, he would explain words like 'Tiyaan' and their application in document writing. So, I was curious when I heard the title. And of course, the story. It is a different script and I am delighted to play a character in it," says Ananya, who plays Amba, a mother in Tiyaan.
The story takes place in UP and Amba migrates there from her native and fights all odds to get a foothold. "She is a mature character and is unfamiliar with the new culture. But she faces it all. I have played the housewife before in other languages," says Ananya. "Tiyaan talks about a subject quite relevant in this era," she adds. Her portions were shot in Hyderabad. Ananya is returning to Mollywood after a gap of two years. Her previous project was Urumbukal Urangarilla.
"I was doing a Telugu project — A aa — during that gap. I had to spend almost a year for that movie. And, I didn't get any compelling script from Malayalam," says Ananya, who is known for her Tamil movies such as Engaeyum Eppothum. "Whatever character I do, I want it to create an impact in the audience's mind. People usually remember me for my Tamil movies. I have not many memorable movies in Malayalam to my credit. Hence, I have become a bit choosy in Malayalam. I am waiting to depict memorable characters in Malayalam," says Ananya.
Having begun her film journey as a child artiste through a film her father had produced, Ananya came back as a grownup actor in the film Positives. However, she was not a person who dreamt of cinema. "I wasn't serious about pursuing it until I reached Kollywood. The industry gave me a good feeling about cinema and brought me closer to the medium," signs off Ananya.
