A twelfth grader's movie dreams
When Facebook announced its mission to bring the world closer, it followed through by connecting people from far-flung countries and opening up dialogue boxes between them. So it happened that Aiswarya Suresh, sitting at a terminal in far off Johannesburg, got a message from Keralite director Najeem Koya asking if she was interested in a role for his directorial debut Kali. Aiswarya explains the rest, “I had done a couple of dubsmash videos which became viral when some online media in Kerala compiled and posted it on their sites. Those caught the eye of Najeem, who contacted me through Facebook and offered me Kali.”
In the movie, Aiswarya plays the role of Poojitha who comes from a financially rich background and Shammi Thilakan plays her father. She mentions, “My character is very bold and the story moves forward through me.” The film has Joju George, Shammi Thilakan, Baburaj and Tini Tom in pivotal roles.
For those curious to know what Aiswarya is doing in Johannesburg, she is doing her twelfth grade in the South African city and is planning to complete her schedules during her vacation. For all those still not satisfied, the school topper with roots in Thrissur has an abiding love for films. “I have always wanted to try my hand at acting which is why I took up Dramatics Arts in school with the intention to pursue arts. I also teach Bollywood dance in school,” adding, “I was a part of the Super Dancer Junior contest and reached the semi-finals.”
When the young girl says films are a passion, it is not the clichéd line spoken by newcomers. Her fascination with the medium is such that she is planning to settle down in Kochi after her twelfth and take up films seriously.
While passion is good, Aiswarya is aware of the line of newcomers making a beeline to get a toe hold in tinsel town. She pragmatically says, “I know about the insecurity but I cannot let go off my dream because of the competition! What I can ensure is to give acting my best shot and then wait for the audience reaction.” On being prodded further, Aiswarya says, "I do have a Plan B in place. If after everything, things do not go as per my plan, I will be in event management.” But that comes later. As of now, she has finished her first schedule of Kali and has loved every bit of the shoot and is eagerly waiting for the second schedule.
